What means: "historically
faithful".
The specially manufactured color profiles on this Website are the
result of considerable research and contain
careful analyses of existing photographs and cross references of
data with a multiplicity of data with a number of books of leading
historians. The interpretation of colors from the
period of the monochrome illustrations will be always subject of
mistakes and while we in no way claims infallibillity it is believed
that the color markings shown here are among the most
authentic currently available.
A small example by the way.
As Paul Leamans book of:"Fokker DrI Triplane" in 2004
finally appeared, our profiles and the profiles drawn by Harry
Dempsey appeared agreeing in 99 %! Thus a very similar result on
completely different ways was reached!
Many other color profiles appeared printed in the past and we have
therefore undertaken each effort not to update further errors.
Today we have to determine it
much more easily these color profiles, because enthusiasts made
various publications with many photos.
In former times one could
accomplish this research still and only by field studies. All color
profiles shown here were developed exclusively by intensive, with the
utmost care study by photo prints shown in many publications. All
texts with original quotations were helpful.
Once MvR said to his mother:" My merit here are not the military
courtesies of the people
in the homeland. For me it is an honour if me the soldiers in the
trenches recognizes me and greets me . They often do this under
ignoring the danger." (Q....) Therefore one can assume surely his
airplanes were recognizable from the lower surface also.
