Jagdgeschwader I (Fighter wing) was created on 26 June 1917.
The fight in larger formationes became tactical necessary.
Jasta 11 is the fighter squadron of Rittmeister Baron Manfred von Richthofen. Already in January 1917 ihe became CO of this unit. Also after its appointment as the commander of fighter wing I (JG I) in June 1917 Jasta 11 remained its master fighter sqadron.
