Jasta 4 - Jagdgeschwader 1

Jasta 4

The most represented Dreidecker of the Jasta 4 was DrI 586/17 of Ernst Udet. Udet led the Jasta of May - August and then of September - October 1918. The colors and markings of its Dreideckers are typical in no point for Jasta 4. Udet took this Dreidecker of Lt. Kirschstein in J 6 to original painting. He inserted only the marking LO on the fuse sides.

Jasta colours (markings)
of the fighter squadron were ivory-white Cowling, wheel covers and wing struts. The long used spiral marking of the Albatros and Pfalz airplanes was not used to the Dreidecker.

Jasta maschines
Jasta 4 was equipped with DrI starting from 20 April 1918 . From the beginning of May one received some of Jasta 6 and 11. There Fokker D VII was introduced.

Jasta
The fighter squadron 4 was formed on 25 August 1916 by FEA9 (flier replacement department) in accordance with order of KM (war Ministry) NR. 929,16 g A7L, and was mobile since 25 August 1916.

For some triplanes the military and/or factory number are not known. In these cases the identification number is specified by me such as par example (x11-3). This means, Jasta (fighter squadron) nr. 11 - nr 3.
